PDP’s Intra Party Politics May Consume Gov. Wamakko’s Second Term Ambition

As Party Stalwarts alleged to be acting the script of the President in the state gang up against him.

This time may not be the best for Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State as party faithful in the State has written a strong worded petition to the National Headquarters of the party. In the nine page petition, which was written by 77 PDP members of the state mostly Exco members of the party indeed asked the National PDP to as a matter of urgency disqualify the incumbent governor from contesting. According to the petitioners, they stressed a lot of things which they said make it unfit for the governor to remain being a member of the party. In their charges they alleged an issue of anti-party activities by the governor.
It was alleged that the governor in order to create acrimony within the party, he deliberately went against zoning principle of the party by supporting financially the candidature of the present Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. According to them this was in total disregard to the principle of zoning as enshrined in the constitution of the party.
They said such action is embarrassing to the party, which they also alleged that in an apparent move to compensate Wamakko the Speaker Waziri Tambuwal went ahead to canvass for an automatic ticket for his sponsor (Wamakko) in total disregard to the constitution of the party that makes party primary a major requirement of electoral laws. The petitioners also alleged that during the presidential primaries the governor openly canvassed for the opponent of the President during the last National Convention to pick the party flag bearer. However, furthermore in their write up, they also alleged that the governor and members of the State Executive were in grievous breach by engaging in anti-party activities by openly, actively and financially supporting the ANPP in Zamfara State.  Wamakko was physically present in Gusau for that purpose. This led to the loss of Zamfara State to the ANPP in the last Governorship election in April 2011. The petitioner also alleged that Wamakko acted against party interest by actively and financially supporting the Congress for Progressive Change in Kebbi State.
Aside anti party activities, they also alleged that Wamakko has been using thugs for the purpose of harassing other party members. According to their report these thugs have constituted public menace and they have been used to harass other members of the party including party elders and stalwarts.
Furthering in their report they alleged that the governor have been involved in financial impropriety; that the accounts of the state Chapter under the de facto leadership of the governor, as he has not prepared or presented as required by Article 20.2 of the party’s constitution and INEC guidelines.
Moreover that the levies specified to be paid by public office holders of the party amounting to the sum of N360,000,00 were so paid and currently not being accounted for.
Aside the issue of financial impropriety, he was also accused of putting people without the requisite qualification as party executives, as most of them do not possess the minimum requirement of secondary school certificate as required by the party constitution and that the majority of the party’s working committees are currently civil servants.
They also raised the issue of party mal-administration, saying party congress has not been held in the state as required in the last four years. They also alleged that the party executives have conducted themselves and the affairs of the party in a manner that has caused disaffection among members, promoting groupings and factions in a manner calculated to hold control of the party.
In the last local government elections in the state, the petitioners claimed that there was no primaries as the governor simply handpicked a few number of people.
For them they also alleged that the issue of favouristism and partiality in the party is another thing which the governor and the party executives are also culpable as their actions marred the primaries which took place in January 2011 for legislative houses. As a result the national secretariat nullified the purported primaries and ordered for re-run.
The re-run has not been held and some party members were hand-picked as the party’s candidates.
The petitioners however, asked the PDP National Leadership to as a matter of urgency, disqualify Aliyu Wamakko from contesting any political office at any level including the forthcoming primaries for the Guber election in the state in line with the party’s constitution, and also suspend the governor as a member of the PDP in line with the party’s constitution. Moreover they also sought for the dissolution of the entire Sokoto State PDP Executive Committee and thereafter appoint an interim caretaker Committee for the State Chapter of the PDP and that this notice should be brought to the knowledge and notice of the screening committee to be constituted for the Sokoto State PDP governorship Primaries.
However, when contacted on phone, the Commissioner for Information, Dahiru Mai Shanu, said that he was aware of the petition and that the Exco have gone to court and as at now the case has been taken to court. He also said that the signatures and names of the three members each from the 23 local governments that the petitioners said they signed were purported as he claimed that those signatures of the three members of the Local Governments were forged.
DESERT HERALD checks revealed that the presidency may back the candidature of Senator Abubakar Gada in the forthcoming Guber primaries in Sokoto. Gada was a member of the National Interest Group who was actively involved in the agitation for President Goodluck Jonathan’s emergence as acting President.

If Wammakko helps in the failure of pdp in Zamfara, and support CPC in kebbi, equally he has the power to kill pdp in Sokoto. He is the only Man who bring pdp into power in the state. Like wise if any one emerge as pdp flag bearer if it was not Wamakko the impact of the party has come to an end in sokoto.
